Aunty Genoa leaves us at age 89

Aunty Genoa Keawe One of the most well respected, wonderful and inspiring leaders of the Hawaiian Music industry left us at the age of 89. Of course, I'm speaking of Aunty Genoa Keawe. She left behind many albums of hawaiian music, fans throughout the world and a family that loved, cared and was grateful for her gift of aloha, music and mana'o of how to be one of Hawaii's greatest legends in the Hawaiian music business. Many people filled radio phone lines, wrote emails, sent their aloha and condolences and remembered how Aunty Genoa Keawe lived her life and shared it with everyone she came into contact with. The Teleschool Branch of the Hawaii State Department of Education will run a special encore presentation of the half-hour program "Eazy Tunes" featuring Auntie Genoa Keawe at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7 on Oceanic cable educational channel 56. Pomaika'i, her granddaughter, continues to play on Thursday nights, just like her Grandmother did for years, at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa.
