Eddie Kamae and his wife Myrna take you along on a journey to Eddie's childhood home thru the DVD "Lahaina".  If you're looking for just a tourist view of this former capitol of Hawai'i, it's soooooo much more.  It's a look into Lahaina thru Hawaiian Eyes; into it's past, and how it's connecting with the future of this Maui town.

Eddie takes into a journey of Lahaina's past from the days before western contact, to how changes in the concept of land ownership and land cultivation made it's presence felt thru Maui.  The end of Lahaina's plantation era is documented and you can't help but feel bad that this era comes to an end on Maui. 

Lahaina at one point was the capitol of Hawai'i, and the past of the point in history intersects with the present and brings a newfound appreciation for our kupuna, our ali'i and the 'aina.  The past is now being preserved and researched for our keiki to understand.

Eddie even gets to answer personal questions about his kupuna as he used to spend summers with his grandmother in Lahaina.

This piece is well written and produced.  A worthy piece for the DVD collection or as a gift to those who have never been here or those who have moved away and miss home...or that just miss the good 'ole days of Lahaina.

Favorite Part of the DVD

Eddie fell down while playing baseball at Malu'ulu'olele Park. Eddie researches and finds out why.
