It's a Thursday afternoon, and I'm still here at the station.  I just got back from Borthwick Mortuary where our radio station staff are setting up for a live broadcast of Aunty Genoa Keawe's services.  There are so many people that are away from Hawai'i, or on neighbor islands that couldn't make it, so it's being broadcast on our sister station AM 940

They were still setting up for the family to have their private services, and I had brought Aunty 5 Pua Kenikeni Lei....three for my family (my wife, my son and I) and lei on behalf of my ohana.  Since the family were stringing a whole bunch together to drape over large pictures of Aunty, portraits that were done for her and more...I gave it to the family to use to decorate.  The family was so appreciative...they had so much aloha.  They thanked me whole heartedly while they continued to decorate.  I walked over to Aunty's casket which was closed and told her the lei were from my family, that there were so many that were coming to visit her today, and that I hope she has a good day today and tomorrow since I can't go to Laie.  I also told her to tell Israel to keep his fingers out of the poi *laugh*.

I didn't stay even though I was invited to.  Family was going to have their services and private time with Aunty.  I was anxious to leave.  I got outside and called my wife and son who are in Japan....I miss them on days like this especially.

Tomorrow is the Aloha Friday Luncheon Show, and we are dedicating it to Aunty Genoa.  There will be a chair there for her...Aunty and Kealoha Kalama were partners in crime, and they attended EVERY Aloha Friday Luncheon show since I started on Hawaiian 105 KINE in July of 2006.  She was there, and I always brought lei for her.  Occasionally her son and manager Eric would be there to join us as well.

I guess I'm in kind of a funk...missing Aunty Genoa but what an amazing life she lived.  She gave so much aloha to her family, and when you meet them or you talk about Aunty Genoa, there is a sparkle in all their eyes.  They radiate the same aloha that has been given to them all of these years.  And they are giving that to others.  It's amazing and it shows it can be done.  We just have to learn to give that unconditionally.  What a giftt Aunty passes to us.  Are we learning from our Kupuna?  Are we taking to heart things like this?  Boy it's a challenge in our day and age, but if Aunty can.... :)

I'm hopeful that the fog lifts, the wind comes back, I can find a good salad (I'm on a diet...that's tomorrow's blog).

I hope you're having a good day.  Go out and give someone you love a hug.  It feels good...believe me...the world needs more hugs..
