Men of Halau Ka Liko Pua O Kalaniakea
What a whirlwind.  After the Miss Aloha Hula competition last night, I had only 2 hours to sleep before I had to get up and do it all over again.  At KWXX-FM at 4:15a, On-Air on Hawaiian 105 KINE at 5:00am, clean up my mess that I made in G Cruz's office where I was broadcasting and head out the door.  Yesterday I saw Cyril Pahinui there, today it was Palani Vaughn.  He was doing an interview for performances that he has tomorrow here in Hilo celebrating King David Kalākaua.

It was straight back to the hotel after running and getting things for the halau.  My wife calls me and itʻs "Honey Do" day.  Honey do this, honey do that please.  Of course my answer is "Yes, right away." :)
I got back to the hotel about 12noon after making a stop for a double loco moco at Cafe 100.  My cholesterol count is going to go up....my trainer is going to kill me, but oh well...you only go Hilo once.  You go Hilo, you gotta get Loco Moco.  Sorry Michelle (my trainer), I know you going to make me do cardio when I get back to Honolulu.

Whew nice to get 4 hours of sleep.  By the time I woke up, I found out that the halau left at 12noon, and weʻre already at the stadium getting ready.  The halau my wife belongs to is #4 and #19, both before the intermission.  I left at 5:15 to go to the stadium.  Take a look at the Kahiko Night Gallery:

From there I was shooting pictures that are on KGMB9, hawaiianbroadcast.com and hawaiian105.com as well as 2 of the halau.  I have to say from my vantage point down in the photographers pit, it looks wonderful.  Every performance.  One that stood out was rebel Mark Kealiʻihoʻomaluʻs hālau.  Definitely a crowd favorite.  Chinky Mahoe and Hālau O Kawailiʻula.  Men and Women of Hālau Ka Liko Pua O Kalaniākea.  The return of Hālau Nā Mamo O Puʻuanahulu.  The Men of Ke Kai O Kahiki.   Keolalaulani Olapa O Laka.  Those were among the memorable performances tonight...but keep in mind I didnʻt see them all.  Those were the ones that I did see that were moving.
Got back to the hotel about 11:00pm...just in time to eat a shoyu chicken plate that was waiting for me.  Good thing is I get to sleep in tomorrow morning.  YAY!!
